Chris Mellor, Seamus Mulready and their friends from in and around the Ottawa, Ontario, area formed Huntley Slim & the Suburban Cowboys in the mid-2000s. They released their first EP in 2007 entitled Sherway Sessions. Their first official album Songs From This Chicken Coop was released in August 2009. The album was actually recorded in an old chicken coop in Carp, Ontario, where Mellor's father was building a boat.
