William Preucil began studying violin at the age of five with his mother, Doris Preucil, a pioneer in Suzuki violin instruction in the United States. At the age of sixteen he entered Indiana University, where he received a prestigious performer's award. He studied with Josef Gingold, Zino Francescatti and György Sebok. William Preucil has made solo appearances with the orchestras of Minnesota, Detroit, Rochester and Hong Kong, as well as the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra with whom he served as leader for seven years.
