Hot as Hades that afternoon. I remember getting there about 30 minutes after the gates opened and they had already run out of food and drinks. They wound up opening all the gates so you could come in and out (no checks or stamps). Everyone packed the infield till there was no room to move. Most of the crowd was very chill, but still kinda hacked off at the lack of food, water, and facilities. By the end of the night the stadium was pretty well torn up, the infield taking the brunt of the hurt. During hurricane Rita when all of Houston tried to evacuate at once, I had crossed over IH-10 near Columbus and the sight of all the standstill cars 4 and 5 deep up and down the frontage roads and freeway with litter ankle high, reminded me of the trashed out / torn up infield at Memorial Stadium that day.
