Sting (born Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, in Wallsend, England, October 2, 1951) is an iconic English musician, best known as the founding member, lead singer, and bassist for The Police from 1977 to 1986, when the band broke up. After The Police disbanded, Sting embarked on a successful solo career, producing hits like "Fields of Gold" and "Shape of My Heart."
