The Indigo Girls are a folk-rock duo, Amy Ray and Emily Saliers, founded in Decatur, Georgia. Ray and Sailers met as children and began creating music together in high school. Originally known as "The B-Band" and then "Sailers and Ray", the duo settled on The Indigo Girls in 1985 when they released their first single "Crazy Game" and a self-titled EP. In 1987, The Indigo Girls dropped its debut studio album "Strange Fire". It was the first of over a dozen to chart on the US Billboard 200 chart. The 1989 hit single "Closer to Fine" remains one of the band's most popular, ranking 15 on NME's 50 best tracks of 1989 and appearing in the film "Barbie" in 2023. While a duo, Ray and Sailers have toured with bands since 1990. In recent years, they have also regularly performed with symphonies and orchestras.
