The original band was formed in 2005 under the name Phoenix Rising, with all the members at the time attending University. They played many gigs in the Denver area at famed venues such as the Gothic and Ogden Theatres. They even won 1st place on 103.5 The Fox's "Last Band Standing" competition with hosts Rick Lewis and Michael Floorwax.
