Wannabes are a rock band from Austin, TX. Their sound is generally considered power pop / post-punk -- think Husker Du, Replacements, Cheap Trick. Lots of hooks, lots of loud guitar, and smart ass lyrics. They became very popular in Austin in the 1990s thanks to their live shows, but were never widely embraced outside of Texas. They were part of a particular Austin music scene that included Sincola, Spoon, Pork, and Sixteen Deluxe, among others, in the 1990s.
