Vanishing Act was founded in Pleasant Hill, CA by Don Clark (drums), Tharon Weighill (bass), Shawn Lloyd (guitar), and Jeremy Ciccone (vocals, guitar). After only practicing for roughly six months, they completed their first EP, "We Liked Our Music Before It Was Cool." One of their tracks, "Years Mapped Out", attracted fans left and right from all over the globe, thanks to an advertisement posted on The Strokes' MySpace.
