Spike Lee (b. March 20 1957 - ) is an acclaimed and controversial black filmmaker based out of New York Ciy, NY. As a film student at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, his thesis film was entitled Joe's Bed-Stuy Barbershop: We Cut Heads which won a Student Academy Award in 1983 from the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences.
