It's later at night than we thought and So So Radio is up making rock music again in this too-permanent vacation house by that too-shallow lake. Taking a cue from bands like Big Star, but finding an edge that's not foreign to bands like Talking Heads, the band seamlessly shifts from tuneful to blistering, from nostalgic to forward-leaning, from straight to crooked. On the stage (or in the room, in this case) they look pretty no-frills, an electric guitar, a bass guitar, a small drumkit, couple voices, the occasional honk of a harmonica.
