The Physical Challenge started in February 2001 in Corvallis, OR as joke/cover band called Marc Summers and the Physical Challenge. The band was made up of 4 college students that just played for fun. After about 5 months of playing covers the band started to mix in some originals, play real shows (not just house parties) and went through a member change. Over the next 6 months more originals were written, less covers were played and more member changes took place.
