Hip-hop multi-instrumentalist Phil Crumar was born and raised in Washington, D.C., where he was inspired by go-go groups like Trouble Funk. Once he got his first drum kit (purchased with insurance money from a summer camp fire that burned all of his clothing), Crumar patterned himself after his favorite go-go drummers and began incorporating other sounds and styles into his music.
