Melanie, also referred to by Melanie Safka was born Melanie Ann Safka-Schekeryk on February 3, 1947, in Queens, New York. She was a singer-songwriter who famously performed at Woodstock in 1969. Her hit single "Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)" is inspired by her performance at the festival. In 1970, she performed at the Power Ridge Rock Festival, which was to be canceled due to a court injunction. Nonetheless, 30,000 attendees showed up to hear her and a few local bands perform on an improvised stage. On January 23, 2024, she passed away in Nashville from an unnamed illness.
These are videos from concerts where Melanie played, so they may be of other bands that played the concert as well.
