En 1969, un grupo de jóvenes del departamento de San Martín (Moyobamba),en el oriente peruano, bajo la dirección de Jorge Rodríguez Grández, deciden formar un grupo musical con el que buscaban difundir la música y costumbres de su región natal; adoptan el nombre de Los Saetas. Eran los hermanos Jorge y Carlos Rodríguez Grández, quienes al son de guitarras y acordeón daban vida a las fiestas en su tierra.
