Before emo hit the mainstream, there was a quiet place in South Florida where some of the best bands were brewing. Chris Carrabba (later of Dashboard Confessional) had joined Shai Hulud/Strongarm members to form Further Seems Forever, and Recess Theory (who had already released a split 7" with Kansas City band, Reflector, in 1998) were invited to perform on their first release, a split EP with Further Seems Forever called "From the 27th State", which appeared on Takehold Records in 1999.
