Born in Alberta, Joni Mitchell began her music career touring throughout Western Canada and then Ontario. In the early 1960s, she moved to California where she released her debut album "Song to a Seagull" (1968). Her fourth album, "Blue" (1971) is widely considered to be one of the greatest albums in music history. Throughout the following years, Mitchell enjoyed continued commercial and critical success. In 1997, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Due to declining health issues she retired from touring in 2000 but has still performed on rare occasions including at her goddaughter's wedding in 2002, two tribute concerts in 2013, and a surprise appearance at the 2002 Newport Folk Festival.
