John Farnham (born July 1, 1949) is an English-Australian singer-songwriter and musician who ranks as one of the most commercially successful artists in Australian history. Born in Dagenham in Essex, he moved to Australia at the age of ten. By 15, he was performing with a local band called The Mavericks and later Strings Unlimited before launching a successful solo career as a “Johnny Farnham” As “Johnny Farnham,” he released 10 studio albums. In 1980, he re-branded himself as “John Farnham” and joined Little River Band as the lead vocalist two years later., replacing Glenn Shorrock He left the band in 1986 and released “Whispering Jack,” the first of nine consecutive albums to peak within the top two on the Australian charts. In 2016, he released the album “Friends for Christmas” with Olivia Newton-John. It was his seventh number-one hit album. After being diagnosed with cancer in August 2022, he announced that he was “cancer free” on July 24, 2023.
