Who says you can’t judge a book by its cover? Jimmy Ohio’s first EP, Basic Black, is also a fitting description of the raw, bluesy rock ’n’ roll found therein. In 2009, the Brooklynite singer-songwriter flew back to his one-time home of Detroit and holed up in a former Baptist church with his pals, Dan Kroha (The Gories, Demolition Doll Rods) on guitar and Trevor Naud (Zoos of Berlin, PAS/CAL) on drums for four days of electrified recording sessions. Back in Brooklyn, Tony Maimone (Pere Ubu) added bass.
