Our grasshopper is a herbivorous arthropod of the suborder caelifera in the order straight winged insects (orthoptera). His colour is diverse and the antenae are quite fancy. Other species that devastate meadows, change colour and behavior at high population densities are called locusts, but he is not amongst them. His favourite pastime activity is to produce sound (known as "stridulation") by rubbing his wings against each other usually sitting on a blade of grass during hot summer afternoons.
