In 1969, Steve Marriott left Small Faces, a band he had formed four years prior with bassist Ronnie Lane, drummer and percussionist Kenney Jones, and keyboardist Ian McLagan. In the midst of Marriot's departure, the remaining members of Small Faces started a new band called Faces with Ronnie Wood joining on guitar and Rod Stewart on lead vocals. While Small Faces disbanded in 1975, members of the band reunited for several one-off performances in the 1980s, '90s, and 2000s while Jones, Wood, and McLagan performed as Faces for the longest period of time since their initial breakup between 2009 and 2012. Faces performed one-off shows in 2019 and 2020 with all living members (Stewart, Jones, and Wood) permanently reuniting in 2021.
