Nascido em Cachoeira de São Felix, Bahia a 120 km de Salvador, em 3 de julho de 1955, Edson Gomes no ardor da adolescência, pensou em ser um craque de futebol. Aos 16 anos, porém a tendência musical foi mais forte e ele abraçou a carreira artística, ao ganhar o 1o lugar num festival estudantil do colégio estadual de sua cidade natal. A música era "Todos devem carregar sua cruz". As dificuldades do inicio fazem o jovem abandonar os estudos e lançar-se no mercado de trabalho.
