The Chaksam-pa Tibetan and Opera Company was formed in 1989. In Tibetan, Chaksam-pa means Bridge-Builder. Chaksam-pa aims to continue the work of preserving and promoting the Tibetan culture by organizing national and international tours and workshop classes. Authentic costumes, from headdresses to boots, as well as hand-made musical instruments, ensure true representations of the traditional dances and operas of Tibet. Chaksam-pa performs worldwide and played the Lincoln Center (1995), Carnegie Hall (1999) and the Tibetan Freedom Concerts.
