Based in Chicago but raised in rural Oklahoma, Joe Phillips creates haunting songs that have been compared to Townes Van Zandt for their emotional reach. His band Ceiling Stars blends folk, shoegaze and psych-rock to create a sonic frame for songs about lost love, desert hallucinations, and a robot who's sole purpose is to shoot its creator.
