Guitarist Matt Thompson and drummer Troy Thames, who’d played together in Thank God, and Guyana Punch Line before that, formed Burnt Books with guitarist Chuck Sligh and bassist Joey Parker of Tunguska. Those bands were all righteously aggressive and unconventional in their own rights, representative of and inspirational to the scene that fostered them. But the addition of singer Zoë Lollis, a powerful singer-songwriter with an intense scream, gave Burnt Books an X-factor.
