I attended this "concert" — it was more like a fragment of a concert, as far as Joplin's portion of it was concerned.
There are two things I remember about Janis Joplin's performance. The first is that Janis drank from a whiskey bottle on the stage, and the second is that the concert was way too short, only about three songs. My memory is confirmed by a review that appeared the next day in Michigan Daily, the U of M campus newspaper, which included this summary: "Last night the James Cotton Blues Band played the Events Building on the University campus. Janis Joplin played too, however she wasn't there."
The first part of the review raved over the opening act, the James Cotton Blues Band. Then the reviewer (W. Rexford Benoit) got to the headliner's (Janis Joplin's) performance. Noting that "she has a magic voice," he continued,
"But she didn't give it to us last night. She sang three songs. During the rest of the set she beat on a cowbell and danced with some imitation showman who, incidentally, plays the baritone saxophone. ... [W]e asked for more. The band, however, was long gone and not about to come back. Janis with them."
Benoit ended by saying it was really the James Cotton Blues Band who turned out to be the main attraction of the concert even though it wasn't advertised on the posters that way.
Here's a link to the Michigan Daily page containing the full review: https://digital.bentley.umich.ed...
Read the info at the top of the list. It says an exact setlist could nor be found.
