Feb 28, 1983 (42 years ago) Stages Granite City, Illinois, United States
This concert was one of the best and certainly most unique concerts I’ve ever been to … and, I’ve been to quite a few. I noted that there was no Setlist to be found. This is not surprising. The band announced from the outset that rather than play the Tour Setlist they were going to play all of their favorite songs that they grew up with. There was a combination of Beatles, Dylan, Stones, Del Shannon, Chuck Berry, et.al. Way too many to keep track of. It was needless to say amazing.
It was Monday following a Saturday night concert at Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis. It was a same-day announcement of the venue. I was at work when the announcement came on KSHE radio. Petty was doing an impromptu concert at Stages; general admission, first come/first serve.
I called my significant other, she called our friends, I left work immediately and headed for Stages. I ended up being third in line. It was a concert I would never forget.
Blues Rock, Classic Rock, Country Rock, Folk Rock, Hard Rock, Pop Rock, Power Pop, Psychedelic Rock, Rock, Singer-Songwriter, Soft Rock, Southern Rock, Album Oriented Rock (AOR), and Mellow Gold.
