candlestick park was awesome in 88..i was only 16 but that fearlessness pays off when it comes to shows..we set our after show meeting place (a necessity if your headed to the front in a general admission stadium show) and i went strait to the stage..with ease because kingdom come was being bood off stage for being zeppelin wanabes..then Metallica stepped up and for a moment i thought i was gona regret being against that fence bar in the sweet spot right under Jason Newsteads bass at left front..cuz that bar was being crushed into my chest by the weight of thousands of metalheads trying to get as close as they could..then this huge dude comes through and stops behind me and swings his arms back and people moved.. and i had a 3 foot space for the rest of metallica and The scorpions were killer too..metallica opened with creeping death at that show cuz i remember thinking they wouldnt play it because they were sort of out of place in a stadium line up with more or less what amounted to a semi-glam-rock/hair metal line up and i would venture to label them a strait Metal band or at the time a Speed Metal band if i were gona buy into labels and such..i remember the scorpions stepping on and the first words out of his mouth were, "everybody move back..theres fu#kin bodies flyin around up here"..that was the day i realized why people like The Scorpions..they could wrangle a stadium and work the acoustics in their favor like nothing ive ever seen..it was one of the most epic, sweet ass sets i have ever seen..every instrument was clear and his vocals were completely audible.. Kingdom come was a bomb and like way out in left field as far as being "MONSTERS of ROCK" they should have had like another harder act to sort of ballance things a bit more for metallica..like WASP or Megadeth would have been proper..but a damn good show..VanHalen was a trip..but by then i was fryin balls on that camoflauged Acid so i only remember up til Eddie breaking his instrument in half and some flames and that sent me off into looking at all the long legs and fishnet stockings..(one of my favorite parts of the 80s music scene i must admit..thanks girls!)

Seeing Living Colour, Metallica, don’t remember Dokken (but was never a fan) feeling very burned out right before Scorpions only to get a helpful jolt and then the sun went down and Scorpions came on and they were wonderful. I had forgotten all about Van Halen because I think their set was forgettable.
