Monsters of Rock Jul 24, 1988 (36 years ago) Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Los Angeles, California, United States
Kingdom Come Dokken Scorpions Van Halen
i Was lucky and knew a security guard stationed at the back of the stage and he let me walk d
own the steps of Coliseum onto the stage during sound check. My LA Gears were touching the edge of the stage there were 80,000+head bangers in front of me! I made my way to James’ side and as the band took stage Mr. Hatfield himself swiped my hand before he grabbed his guitar. I waited overnight at Ticketron for tickets to the show and believe it or not won tickets being the 25 th caller when I heard Fade to Black on KNAC putting me in the drawing for vip passes that evening and wouldn’t you know it Long Paul called my name that night to call in and claim my prize! What a ride, right! During Whiplash there were technical difficulties and the band and all of us left the stage to return and finish their set. I joined the band backstage chatted with James and Kirk James actually jokingly asked me to marry him and Kirk smiled with his arm around me for a pic taken by my flip camera I snuck in under my KNAC Minsters of Rock fanny pack I won. Live shows haven’t been the same since. I am now 50 and get to see them in Charlotte NC in May this year. Think I’ll get lucky? Peace and metal up your you know where!!!
Rescheduled from the 23rd to the 24th due to Sammy Hagar's sore throat. A riot broke out during Metallica's set, with fans storming the field from the stands.

My friend and I had nose bleeds seats until Metallica came on. As the wave of people flowed to the floor. There was not a bad place to be. It was truly an amazing experience. One, I will never forget. I still have my shirt and knac sticker in my boxes of concert paraphernalia.
I remember when all the seats were being thrown and then everyone was just walking around. I got about 30 feet from the stage.
This concert was so fun as me and my friend sat in traffic on the 110 fwy we cracked open some drinks we were hammered by the time we finally parked.I had brought a cooler besides drinks also had bread and lunchmeat etc to make sandwiches others around us were partying this is still in the parking lot and people were offering me money for a sandwich oh good times.once inside we had the worst seats clearly so far from the stage .When metallica were playing and shit got crazy my friend stood up and says dude lets go meaning head for the stage I said your crazy cops were breaking out the batons as the fence around the floor seats was coming down from the riot.I told my friend to sit down but a min later he stood up again says dude lets go ,again I said sit down ,another min goes by he stands up for the third time and says dude Im going with or without you so I say ok lets go we immedialty got seperated as I dodged a cop I found a empty floor seat as most had been hurled as I sat there looking for my friend the person sitting in front of me turns around and wouldnt you know it was someone I knew from high school we shared a some bud and says later I gotta go find my friend which I did finally find close to the stage .When V H took the stage we were almost in the front row glad I finally agreed with my friend to go for it .
The KNAC sticker was given to me as someone was handing them out free that day. Scorpions were the best band that day. Metallica was okay. Dokken was good. I liked Kingdom Come and Van Halen.
I came with friends from Camp Pendleton for this concert. It was worth it. We were ended up buying a parking spot in a yard across the street. I think it was $20 and that helped out immensely.
Nice ticket stub. This show was one, of maybe only two times, that they tore my ticket and gave me only the small stub with seat info to keep. Very disappointing. I need to post a photo of the stub.
I thought at the LA concert it was 65,000 when Sammy Hagar announced the attendance.
I’ve seen various attendance numbers from 74,00 to 80,927
