Morrissey Jul 21, 1991 (33 years ago) Brixton Academy London, England, United Kingdom
This was a great concert, Morrissey was in an excellent mood, growling his way through the whole set. The event took place in a more reasonably sized venue than on the previous date, which made it all much better for fans wanting to make it on stage. Still very few of them made it up there to touch, kiss or hug their idol. The order of the set list was significantly changed. "November Spawned A Monster" was moved up to the position of set opener, and the song that usually followed it, "Will Never Marry", was dropped. In its place "Cosmic Dancer" was reinstated, slotted as the first song of the encore. The song had been absent from the setlist since early in the previous American leg of the tour. "Piccadilly Palare" was moved down the list but it still segued into the cover of the New York Dolls "Trash".
Funnily enough, Morrissey had voice problems during "Sing Your Life", particularly during the line "all of those who sing on key...". The man sarcastically introduced "Pregnant For The Last Time" with the words "This is our new single, which you've probably heard constantly on the radio... some things never change..." "Yes I Am Blind" was done following its usual live arrangement, but in this performance Morrissey mistakenly sang "No, I can't see the bad things, just the bad things". After "...there must be something horribly wrong..." he paused and let the audience fill in "... with me" before he sang it himself.
As usual, Morrissey introduced the Jam cover "That's Entertainment" without saying who it was from: "This song was written before anybody in this room was even born". During the song's usual frantic drum and guitar ending, Boz or Alain smashed their guitars while the crowd ecstatically cheered. After "There's A Place In Hell For Me And My Friends", Morrissey said "If anybody has any questions about that song, I'm staying at the Rainbow Hotel on Peckham High Street, room 4". In "Our Frank", he started the line "the world may be ending, but look i'm..." and instead of singing "...only human", he made random noises. As an encore, Morrissey segued the returning "Cosmic Dancer" with the usual set closer "Disappointed" as he had been doing at the beginning of the tour. In the latter, he changed a line to "All of your friends and your foes would rather die than have to shag you".
