SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL: WILLIAM BURROUGHS TURNS 70 (IN PERSON)
By invitation, my friend Joe Gillette and I had the privilege and honor of meeting beat author and literary outlaw, William S. Burroughs (1914-1997) on the eve of his seventieth birthday and release of Howard Brookner's documentary "Burroughs - The Movie". In attendance was the authors friend and business manager, James Grauerholz. WPA screened a 16mm print of the film, followed by a reception at Herb's Restaurant near Dupont Circle, where Burroughs kindly autographed my first edition of "The Place of Dead Roads".
