Tribute to Led Zeppelin Jul 11, 1978 (46 years ago) Six Flags over Mid America Eureka, Missouri, United States
Saw the afternoon set of a two set show. It was at an outdoor venue within the Amusement Park. The lead singer said before playing, “Ramble On” that , “ this song was written about Missouri” or something to that effect. This got a loud cheer from the Audience! .. We discovered this concert by chance as we walked through the park. My Mother liked Music but had no idea who , “ Led Zeppelin “ was. I had heard of them, though I was only 9. My best freind, James Stephens, 8 at the time, had older sisters and we listened to Led Zeppelin 2 as it came blasting through the walls of his sisters Room!
The crowd was chanting for , “ Stairway to Heaven” but the lead singer said that tune would be played at the second show later that night. I must add, The concert began with a rousing rendition of, “I can’t get no satisfaction “ by The Rolling Stones, performed with one guitar, Sung by a roadie I presume. He was wonderful!! My first taste of live music and I was spell bound! If the show had ended there and then , at that moment I would of been changed for the better! Then, The White, came on and electrified the Audience! Wonderful and the energy was palpable! I recall, “Rock n Roll”being played and the lead singer would hold the mic out like a phallic symbol, the girls applauded, my Mother Gasped! She spoke of this several times throughout the day and following weeks haha… The White were incredible that day! My First concert by the first ever tribute band! Experienced with my best friend and my Mom! A perfect memory now of a perfect time!
