This show was a great experience. It was my first time seeing a show at Saint Andrews and it is still my favorite Detroit venue to this day. Provides an intimate setting while also providing drinks from the bar with just a few steps to stage left. I attended this show with an ex girlfriend. I won meet and greet concert tickets from 89x and got to meet The Bravery downstairs in The Shelter before the show. I remember being disappointed that the lead singer Sam didn't interact or say anything to anyone from what i remember. On the other hand, the guitarist, Moose, was awesome. I got to sit down at a table with him one on one and just shoot the shit. I remember asking what they do for fun while traveling, and got a kick out of his response of playing guitar hero and recently watching the movie Zombieland. He passed out some guitar picks to people but ran out when he got to me, but rather than say "tough luck kid", he gave me his personal pick that was all worn and clearly played with numerous time. From that point on, i had an amazing night.
The Dustys opened the show. I didn't know anything about them beforehand but was pleasantly suprised with there performance. The intensity of the show increase when The Living Things took the stage. They immediately displayed some old school rock and roll. They put on a fun performance with the lead singer coming out in to the audience to sing at one point, even despite some technical issues early in their performance. At one point the bass stopped working and i recall having a good laugh at the singer's response "The bass isn't working but we're in Detroit. You guys have The White Stripes and you don't need bass. Fuck bass. That's my brother playing bass. Fuck my brother." They definitely set the stage for the main act.
Once The Bravery took the stage, the rest was history. We rocked the night away and despite a less than warming reception when meeting the singer, he was certainly impressive and gave me one of my most memorable shows to date.
