July 30, 1981 – Styx

Although never a critic’s favorite, the rock band Styx was voted by a Gallup poll to be America’s most popular rock act in 1979. Syracuse agreed. More than 20,000 fans packed the Carrier Dome for the band’s performance. Sound issues were less apparent thanks to the band’s sound technicians. Fan favorites “Babe,” “Renegade,” and “Come Sail Away” were “covered faithfully” according to Post-Standard reviewer John Bonfatti, “fueling an audience that needed little stroking.”
