Dick York, der seit frühster Jugend Gitarre spielt und Songs schreibt, traf Vom Ritchie 1981 in Basildon, Essex (England). Zu diesem Zeitpunkt spielten beide bereits in überregional bekannten Bands. Zusammen gründeten sie ihre erste gemeinsame Band "Cry Dyann", die recht schnell durch eingängige Pop Punk Songs wie "Could it be", "So Clean", "She Loves" and "Plundersquad" als heisser Newcomer gehandelt wurden. Leider erwies sich das Management als weniger professionell
