Billy Joel (born William Martin Joel, May 9, 1949) is one of the world's most acclaimed pop-rock musicians of the 20th century. Now 75, Joel was born in the Bronx but moved to nearby Long Island as an infant. At the age of four, he began playing the piano and at 16, he joined his first band, The Echos. Two years later he left to join The Hassles, then Attila two years after that. In 1971, Joel released his debut album "Cold Spring Harbor." It was followed by "Piano Man." The single of the same name quickly became Joel's signature song. By the end of the 1970s, Joel was an international sensation, with "52nd Street" (1978) becoming his first number-one album in the US. In 2001, he released his thirteenth and final studio album to date "Fantasies & Delusions." Joel has toured extensively since, often with other major artists of his era including Elton Jon and Stevie Nicks. Some of Joel's most popular songs include "Vienna," "We Didn't Start the Fire," "Uptown Girl," and "She's Always a Woman," among many others.
